Proofing Alhambra Arches 3 – Multi-block Linocut

I have been proofing my three block linocut ‘Alhambra Arches’. Here are some progress pictures.

Another round of proofing new colour combinations; two blocks in and one block to go.

These colours make me think of butterscotch – yum!

I am thinking a dark red for the last block.

Proofing Alhambra Arches 2 – Multi-block Linocut

I have been proofing my three block linocut ‘Alhambra Arches’. Here are some progress pictures.

I have finished some final prints of the lime green, purple and blue combination.

I have printed the first block in yellow; then thinking orange and reds for next blocks.

I have also printed the first block in ochre; then thinking darker ochre and reds for next blocks.

Proofing Alhambra Arches – Multi-block Linocut

I have been proofing my three block linocut ‘Alhambra Arches’. Here are some progress pictures; I did proof print wet on wet ink for the last block, which doesn’t get the best results, but for proofing it is fine – I couldn’t wait! I intend to do some more colour combinations as I’d like to print a varied colour edition of 30 prints. I think I will do three sets of 10 prints of a certain colour combination. I am still thinking on whether to make some adjustments to the last block.

I would love to hear your thoughts on these.

Classic Printmaker’s Mistake – Alhambra Arches

Well I made a classic printmaker’s mistake; I cut my third lino block the wrong way around, which meant it printed incorrectly!

I am making a multi-block print using 3 lino blocks.

The black and white image is a proof print of the last block to be printed; it shows the tree towards the right and the longest arched doorway to the left.

The second image shows a proof print of the first block to be printed in lime green, which is correct. And then printed on top in grey ink is a proof of the block that I have just cut incorrectly; you can see the longest arched doorway is on the right now – it should be on the left.

What an idiot I am!

Cutting the Lino – Alhambra Arches 3rd Block Linocut

I have started to cut the third block for my linocut ‘Alhambra Arches’. You can read about the process so far here:

Starting a new Linocut – Alhambra Arches, First Proof – Alhambra Arches  and Second Proof – Alhambra Arches

This block will be printed second in the sequence.

Firstly I traced the areas I wanted to print from the line drawing proof print. I then went over the drawing again in pencil on the back of the tracing paper so that I would have graphite pencil to transfer onto my third block. Turning the drawing the right way up again and sticking it to my block with masking tape; I retraced the design, pressing hard and so transferring the graphite pencil to the surface of my block. Now I am in the process of cutting the design.

(Note: I made a classic printmaker’s mistake – I should have cut the image the other way round so that it printed correctly. I only realised my error once I proofed the print and realised it was wrong! See post https://catamongthepigeonspress.wordpress.com/2015/01/29/classic-printmakers-mistake-alhambra-arches/)
