Weekly Sketch – Alhambra – 04/08/12

In my Weekly Sketch posts I will share the good and bad scribbles that I undertake…

This is a pen and pencil sketch of an interior courtyard at the Alhambra Palace; here I was trying to employ tone to give depth and space. I am not normally attentive to tone because I think in line, shape and layers for printmaking, and that is how I usually draw – quite flat images. I was also trying to get across the high decoration that is everywhere in the palace without it being too busy. So although I got some tone in there, it really isn’t the best example of a tonal drawing. I am pleased with the decoration though – not too fussy.
